The contract I mentioned previously has lead to a steady job that pays enough and has amazing benefits. It required a third move this year but hopefully the last for awhile! I am thrilled to be at a point where I can finally relax and start planning a debt free time line and not just planning how I will be able to afford food. It’s been such a long road to get here through so many tears, living in so many different places. The one thing I did differently this time was to focus on positions that paid better but where riskier. I decided I had to take chances and be prepared to move to get ahead instead of taking lower paying but guaranteed positions in familiar places. It should have been obvious so much sooner that looking for work in new places might be the answer. When I lived up North I new it was temporary so it didn’t feel like moving away, it just felt like an adventure, Now I plan to keep this job for a long time, a permanent move away from my home/college towns. I can’t believe how much I’ve changed in the past year willing to work contract to contract to get my foot in the door even though I might end up without a paycheck. I’ve never done these things – instead favouring the safety of crappy customer service positions. And now one year to the day since I first ventured out into a new bigger scarier world I have a career!
